Viking Repair Boston Call (617) 300-0906

Viking service · Boston

Viking appliances, in buildings that were never designed for them.

Independent Viking repair across Boston: ranges and wall ovens, refrigeration and panelled dishwashers. Four floors of stairs in the North End, a freight elevator in the Seaport, a side driveway in Roslindale — the access is half the job here and it gets planned for.

  • Ranges, ovens, refrigeration and dishwashers
  • Diagnosis at the appliance before any part is named
  • Flat $95 service call, credited against an approved repair

Repairs

Four kinds of call

Cooking, cold and washing — the four Viking machines that end up in Boston kitchens. Anything outside this list gets referred rather than attempted.

A black and stainless gas range built into cherry cabinets, oven door open on an empty cavity and cast grates above

Range Repair

Viking sealed-burner and open-burner ranges, dual-fuel and all-gas, from 30-inch units to wide professional tops with a griddle section. Ignition, gas flow and simmer control account for most of what we see.

  • Burner clicking long after it has lit
  • Flame lifting off the cap or burning yellow
A stainless professional-style gas range with five knobs, oven door open on an empty cavity and a rack propped against it

Oven Repair

Oven cavities that run hot or cold, doors that no longer seal, and convection or broil circuits that stop responding — single and double wall ovens included.

  • Oven overshooting the set temperature
  • Convection fan running with no heat behind it
The empty interior of a refrigerator with the door open, shelf rails on the side walls and a vent grille on the rear panel

Refrigerator Repair

Viking built-in and freestanding refrigeration, including professional side-by-sides and integrated columns. Cooling loss, blocked drains and control board faults.

  • Fresh food compartment warm while the freezer is normal
  • Water collecting under the bottom drawer
A dishwasher pulled out of its cabinet and tipped back on a towel, exposing the circulation pump, hoses and base frame

Dishwasher Repair

Viking dishwashers that will not drain, leak at the door, or stop mid-cycle behind a custom cabinet panel.

  • Standing water left in the tub after a cycle
  • Cycle stopping partway with the lights still on

Neighbourhoods

Four parts of the city that behave completely differently

Access is the variable in Boston. A walk-up, a dock and a driveway are three different visits before anyone opens a panel, and each of these has its own page.

02113

North End

Brick tenements and narrow walk-ups line streets barely wide enough for a van, with most kitchens three or four floors up. Everything comes up the stairs, so slim professional ranges and undercounter appliances dominate.

Access Street parking is effectively nil and the stairs are narrow. Parts come up in a bag rather than on a trolley, which is worth knowing before a visit is booked.

02124

Ashmont

Ashmont and Ashmont Hill hold large Victorians and three-deckers on lots that are generous by city standards. Many have been gut-renovated with the kitchen moved to the back of the house, into what used to be the pantry.

Access Driveways and rear entrances make access straightforward. Kitchens moved into former pantries often leave very little clearance on the hinge side.

02131

Roslindale

Roslindale runs to 1920s Colonials, capes and two-families around the Village and Bellevue Hill. Detached houses with side driveways make access far easier here than in most of Boston.

Access Side driveways and detached houses — the easiest access on this list, and usually a full-size kitchen to work in.

02210

Seaport District

The Seaport is almost entirely new construction plus converted Fort Point wool warehouses, so kitchens are open-plan and built straight into the living space. Getting to one means a freight elevator, dock hours and a building manager rather than a driveway.

Access Loading dock, freight elevator and a certificate of insurance on file with the building. Booking the lift comes before booking the appliance.

Stopped cooling on the fresh side after a long humid week in August. The defrost timer had stuck. He explained the cycle so I actually understood what had happened rather than just handing me a bill.

The range shut itself off partway through dinner twice in a week. He traced a harness connector behind the control that had backed out from vibration. Reseated and secured, and no repeat in three months.

The double unit threw a fault code that came straight back after every power cycle. A relay board had a burnt trace on it. He photographed the damage and showed me before ordering a replacement.

Process

How a call runs, in three stages

Always this order. Nothing is opened up before the third stage.

  1. Lineman's pliers, two screwdrivers and a wire brush laid out beside a roller bracket, a steel bracket and loose bolts

The model plate and the access

Two things get asked on the phone: what is printed on the plate, and how the appliance is reached. In Boston the second one decides the visit as much as the first — stairs, a freight elevator with booking hours, a building manager, or a driveway.

  2. Pliers, three screwdrivers, a nut driver and a wire brush set out in a row with two steel brackets and small clips

    Readings, taken on site

Gas pressure at the manifold, spark and flame sense burner by burner, cavity temperature against the set point, sensor and element resistance, drain and fill behaviour on a dishwasher. Numbers off the machine rather than a guess from the doorway.

  3. Pliers, two coloured-handle screwdrivers and a brush laid beside a cast housing, a round ring-shaped part, bolts and a spring

    One figure, before anything opens

Parts and labour quoted as a single number, with the $95 service call inside it on an approved repair. Where the sensible answer is that the appliance is not worth the parts, that is the answer you get.

Questions

Asked before the visit is booked

Six answers, all of them checkable.

A wire brush, three screwdrivers, hinge plates, latch links, springs and loose screws arranged on a cloth
What does the $95 service call actually buy?

The visit and the full diagnosis: readings taken at the appliance and a plain explanation of what has failed. Approve the repair and the $95 comes off the total.

Do you quote a repair price over the phone?

No, and anyone who does is guessing. The phone call narrows it down — often to two or three candidates — but the number comes after the readings, before anything is opened up.

My building needs a certificate of insurance and a booked elevator.

That is normal in the Seaport and in most of the converted Fort Point buildings. Say so when you call and the paperwork goes to the management office ahead of the visit rather than on the day.

Which Viking appliances do you work on?

Ranges, wall ovens, refrigeration and dishwashers. Sealed-burner and open-burner ranges, dual-fuel and all-gas, professional side-by-sides and integrated columns, and dishwashers behind custom panels.

Is this Viking?

No. This is an independent repair business and it is not affiliated with Viking. Appliances still covered by the manufacturer belong with a factory-authorised provider, which is a different route entirely.

How do I book without phoning?

Through the booking page. There is no contact form on this site and no email address — the phone and the booking link are the only two ways in, on purpose.

Talk to someone

Describe the fault and the access. You will get a straight answer to both.

The flat $95 service call covers the trip and the diagnosis, and comes off the total on an approved repair.
